Maqks Facts

Maqks grew up in Northern Virginia and began dancing at Metropolitan School of the Arts at the age of 3. Over the years they joined the pre-professional ballet company as well as working through 7 Royal Academy of Dance ballet exams. They also began to work on and produce interdisciplinary projects that included visual artists, live music and dancers.

After graduating high-school, Maqks achieved his BFA in Modern and Contemporary Dance from the George Mason University School of Dance. While a student at George Mason, he worked with many guest teachers and choreographers as well as performing in student work. Maqks also began his choreographic journey in earnest while in school. They discovered their love of making work that is both simple and narrational. While in college Maqks began teaching themself how to sew and paint as well which influences their work heavily. During their exploration of art and dance they also became the resident drag king at The Palace NoVa from summer of 2021 to the fall of 2023.

Maqks also has a love of gardening and has worked outdoors as a groundskeeper and loves having dirt under his nails (and being on a riding lawnmower)!
